What is RSAT?
RSAT stands for Remote Server Administration Tools. It is a utility of Windows Server and was first introduced in Windows Server 2008 R2. It is used to remotely manage computers running the same operating system. Administrators can manage modules and tools on remote computers with RSAT. This makes it easy to organize function roles and role services within the server.
RSAT for Windows
RSAT is available on several versions of Windows. Below it is described per version whether RSAT can be used on that version.
RSAT for Windows 7
RSAT was available for Windows 7. Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7, so Microsoft no longer offers the RSAT installation for this version. It is possible to install the RSAT for Windows 7 through other online channels.
RSAT for Windows 8 and 8.1
Microsoft offers RSAT for Windows 8 standard and Windows 8 Pro. It is available in both 64-bit and 32-bit versions. It cannot be installed on computers with an ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) architecture.
Microsoft also offers RSAT for Windows 8.1. The download of this version is only applicable to Windows 8.1. It can be used with both the x86 and x64 versions of Windows 8.1.
RSAT for Windows 10
Microsoft offers RSAT for Windows 10, just not for all versions. RSAT is available for the following versions:
RSAT cannot be installed on Windows RT, computers with an ARM architecture, or other system-on-chip devices.
RSAT for Windows 11
Microsoft offers RSAT for Windows 11. RSAT also cannot be installed on Windows RT, computers with an ARM architecture or other system-on-chip devices. Installing RSAT on Windows 11 is easier than before, there is no need to download a standalone version.
Different versions of Windows Server with RSAT
RSAT runs on Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019. and Windows Server 2022. The system requirements are the same on Windows Server as Windows OS.

- Server management
- Consoles
- Microsoft Management Console (MMC) modules
- Windows PowerShell cmdlets and providers
- Command line tools to perform functions on Windows Server.
- IP Address Management Tools (IPAM)
- DHCP Tools
- Routing and remote access tools.
- Network Policy Server Utilities.
